The landscape
The landscape in Eastern Jutland is very special. The land is covered with luxuriant nature, beautiful landscapes and large, green forests, which all in all creates an oasis at all times of year. The variety of nature encourages to long hikes where you really explore the area and go on picnics with your family in open air.
In some areas along the coast, there are steep lime cliffs that were created millions of years ago.

Beaches
In Eastern Jutland, you will find some of Denmark’s most child-friendly beaches. Here, the children can play at the water’s edge for hours. Build sand castles. Look for crabs. The shallow water makes it a safe experience to play at the water – which is an advantage for children as well as adults.
Ajstrup/Mariendal Beach
Child-friendly bathing beach – 15 km south of Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest town. If the fresh ocean air has made you a bit hungry, there are plenty of possibilities for satisfying your hunger at the eateries close by. For example, we recommend enjoying a meal in cosy surroundings at the inn Norsminde Gl. Kro or Fiskehuset at the harbour. There are good shopping possibilities during the summer months. Special activities: Miniature golf, bicycle rental, petanque, surfing, angling, hiking and guided kayak trips.
Kysing Beach
The coast line varies between mixed sandy beach and rockier beach. The varied coast line forms the basis of very nice fishing spots. Child-friendly bathing beach with wooden pier at the road Pouli Nielsens Vej.
Rude Beach
Very child-friendly sandy beach sheltered from the west wind. From the tall cliffs, there is an amazing view of the ocean.
Saksild Beach
Saksild Beach is among the absolute best of the east coast. Very child-friendly sandy beach where there are neither large waves nor undercurrent to worry about. The beach buzzes with life and activities.
Tourist attractions
Hjejlen ApS
Hjejlen is the world’s oldest coal-fired paddle steamer still in operation, and during the summer, it sails with a large number of tourists between Silkeborg and Himmelbjerget (highest point in Denmark) and on to Laven on the other side of Julsø. The sailing time to Himmelbjerget from Silkeborg is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The Organic Garden
The garden is a peaceful oasis covering 19 acres of land in the town Odder. Filled with theme gardens and animal pens. The paths lead from garden to garden, past hens, donkeys, sheep and pigs. Large playground, café and shop.
The Old Town
One of the most visited museums in Denmark is The Old Town in Aarhus. The museum is a living image of the way life used to be in old Danish towns. Here, you can experience a market town in the days of H.C. Andersen, where adventure is right around the corner. Meet people from the past, see their living rooms and kitchens and enjoy the smell in their gardens. Try the old-fashioned games and go exploring in the large exhibitions of the museum.
