
Thassos is the most northerly island in the Aegean group, lying just off the coast of mainland Greece. The island’s capital Thassos also called Limenas has about 2000 inhabitants. The environment surrounding the town is breath-taking, rolling hills and mountains covered in pine forests and olive groves. The largest archaeological site is found at the rear of the old port in Thassos. You can still see the walls, which completely surrounded the town, the acropolis, the agora, theatre, temple of Pythian Αροllο, choragic monument, and many other ruins.
Thassos town is also the shopping centre of the North side of the island. Enjoy searching for many good bargains as you walk along walkways lined on both sides with dozens of small shops, businesses and snack bars.

The climate of Thassos
Thassos has a colder climate than most of the other islands in Greece due to its location in the northern part. The winter is humid with low temperatures. The temperature starts rising from April and the springtime is mild and sunny. Summer is hot, but temperatures do not rise as high as in the Cyclades.
