Amalfi

The beautiful town Amalfi located 72 km south of Naples in Campania has given its name to the whole coastline in the area. It is a quiet and picturesque seaside destination with a temperate climate and incomparable natural beauties. The town is built on a gap in the cliffs and lies between the mountains and the sea. It is possible to walk between the houses along little paths and via up and down steps across the cliffs in all directions. The old town has some steep, narrow streets, and there is a lively stretch of seafront.
Amalfi itself has a small, pebbly beach, but at Minori and Maiori you will find some very nice sandy beaches.
Amalfi is not primarily a resort for those seeking an action packed family holiday, however it has clear seas and children will enjoy a boat trip from the harbour to the striking Emerald Grotto, a coastal cavern with deep green water or to the Grotta dello Smeraldo, which is a fantastic green temple with figures, caryatids and bas-reliefs formed by dripping water from the vaulted ceiling over thousands of years. Amalfi is reached from the towns Salerno or Sorrento. Both routes are very picturesque and famous for the great variety and beauty of the views they offer.
Amalfi offers a great balance between city break and coastal holiday and is ideal for those seeking a relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting.
