Lake Ledro is close to the big holiday area, Lake Garda, but is, nevertheless, yet partly unknown to many people which is positive for those who look for peace and quiet in wonderful natural surroundings.
The landscape of Lake Ledro
The blue water brightly shines against the big and small forested green mountains. To the North, you will see a crown of tall mountains of which Monte Cadria is the tallest of the Ledro Alps (2254 m). The landscape and its vegetation are characterised by the fact that the area is located between two climate zones.
Large cities by Lake Ledro: Bezzecca and Tiarno di Sopra
The city Bezzecca is famous for being the battlefield for battles between the successors of Garibaldi and the Austrian army in 1866. The war between the Italian artillery and the Hapsburg army before World War I also took place here. Visit the Garibaldi museum in Bezzecca which tells about both wars (open July-August). The city is divided by the River Assat into two districts; Villa on the right side, and Luta on the left side.
Molina di Ledro is especially famous for its pile buildings from the Bronze Age which have been exposed by numerous excavations. The results of these excavations are shown in a museum in the city that is open from February to November.
Tourist attractions by Lake Ledro
In the small town, Mezzolago, which is located by the outlet of Valle di Dromaè, you can experience a natural botanic garden with many special species of plants.
Experience the most beautiful view of Lake Garda that is close to Lake Ledro. Close to Tremalzo, there is a connection over the mountains down to Lake Garda via Tremosine, a place that has earned the byname “the balcony of Lake Garda” because of the impressive view from here.
In the small town, Tiarno di Sotto, you will find another important asset for the cultural and artistic treasures of the area. The beautiful church in the town has preserved its valuable paintings and other things that are said to originate from the famous Tintoretto art school.
Sports activities at Lake Ledro
The area offers good fishing possibilities as well as yachting, kayaking, tennis playing, horseback riding, paragliding, climbing, mountain biking and trekking in the mountains. In the winter, the area offers a number of routes for cross-country skiers, and you will find trips with snowshoes and trips to see beautiful icefalls, too.
Gastronomic characteristics of the area around Lake Ledro
Regional dishes that are worth mentioning are toasted pickerel and fresh water fish as well as grilled rainbow trout. You should also taste the cheese, Taleggio, which was known before the 10th century as well as Casonsei which is stuffed pasta that you should also taste. Along with the food, you would drink a glass of one of the locale wines; Franciacorta, Bianco di Custoza or Marzemino.

The climate in the area is influenced by the location between two climate zones, but in general, the climate is mild with temperatures in the summer reaching 27 degrees in the daytime.
