Mallorca

Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest and most visited of the Balearic Islands which are located in the Mediterranean Sea and are a part of Spain. Its wonderful climate, beautiful landscapes, wonderful beaches, a rich cultural offer as well as its cosmopolitan ambience make it a privileged holiday resort.

With an average of 300 days of sunshine each year is certainly an excellent spot for beach lovers but the island of Mallorca is more than a place to go for sand, sea and sun. Here visitors can discover Gothic architecture, hilltop villages, olive groves and hidden coves and beaches. It has a surprising number of historic sites worth seeing and its villages and rural areas still retain much of its original charm.

This elegant island has to offer anything a visitor might dream of!

The landscape of Mallorca

The Tramontana hills at the northwest of the islands give place to impressive cliffs that are a shocking contrast to the beaches on the rest of the island. The pla is the fertile central plain. West of the plains and in the centre of the Palma bay is the capital: Palma de Mallorca.

Large cities on Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca will impress you from the moment you arrive to its port: yachts, palms, and the wonderfully detailed cathedral. Palma creates magic, more than ever in the early hours of the day. History and modernity melt together with the deep blue of Mediterranean Sea. There are lots of interesting narrow streets, quiet courtyards and a harbour front worth wandering along.

Bahía de Alcudia is certainly one of the island's most outstanding places. And do not miss the beaches in its South as well as Puerto de Alcudia.

Tourist attractions on Mallorca

Other attractions which can be enjoyed by lovers of the outdoors are: The stunning Castell de Bellver, one of the most spectacular Gothic castles in Europe.

The Coves del Drac has almost 2000m of caves and six subterranean lakes. The highlight of the tour is classical musicians playing from boats on a large underground lake.

Manacor is the best place to buy the island's famous cultivated pearls. Worth a visit are also the natural park Parque de la Albufera which offers excellent walking, cycling and bird-watching opportunities and the talaiolitic archaeological town of Artá.

Sports activities on Mallorca

The warm and limpid waters of the Mediterranean Sea that bathes the shores of Mallorca is the ideal setting for a wide assortment of water sports as sailing, diving and swimming. It’s also the perfect place for combining holidays with activities that will lend a touch of adventure to your stay: rock climbing, descents into ravines, etc.

Gastronomic characteristics of Mallorca

Some of the typical dishes of Mallorca you shouldn't miss are the sweet pastry Ensaimada, the Sobrasada Mallorquina, a spicy sausage with lard and paprika and if you like seafood, the Cigala Mallorquina, a species which exists only here.

The climate of Mallorca

The climate of Mallorca is Mediterranean and has milder winter. The hot summer season lasts from June to September (30°C), lots of sunshine and very little rain. During the months of September to October and January to May the climate is mild and agreeable, veritable spring weather.
