Costa Blanca

Costa

Costa Blanca refers to over 200 kilometres of coastline belonging to the Province of Alicante. Its magnificent sand beaches, bright light and warm weather makes it a first rate touristic centre. You will find remains of most remote civilizations. The Moorish legacy is still present in traditional artisan and agriculture. With complete tourist facilities, spectacular scenery, varied gastronomy, popular festivities, and sports, cultural and entertainment opportunities Costa Blanca is one of the most cosmopolitan sites in Europe.

The landscape of Costa Blanca

The landscape of Costa Blanca is characterised by a gentle coastline overlooked by mountains that can reach 1,500 metres in height. The north is cut across by mountains but the south is famous for its long beaches, as well as for the many wetlands, salt and sand dunes. The combination of almond tree fields, vineyards, orchards and magnificent palm trees creates an unique type of vegetation in Europe.

Large cities in Costa Blanca: Alicante

Alicante is the second largest city of Valencian Community. It is dominated by the Moorish castle Castillo de Santa Barbara. You can also visit the spectacular and modern Alicante Provincial Archaeological Museum (MARQ).  Among the most important cities are Denia, Calpe, and Benidorm with its outstanding hotel infrastructure and boiling nightlife.

Tourist attractions in Costa Blanca

The Palm Grove of Elche is declared a World Heritage by UNESCO.

The Canalobre Caves in Busot have many stalactites and stalagmites as if they were huge candelabra. Visit the island of Tabarca, a real monument of nature and once a refuge for pirates and corsairs.

Sports activities in Costa Blanca

The beautiful coastline and stable temperatures make Costa Blanca a paradise for lovers of water sports: windsurfing, rowing, canoeing and jet ski, are just a few of the options available in the region. The 20 marinas, 9,000 berths and three Marine Resorts, combined with a wide and comprehensive range of services and infrastructures, make the Costa Blanca one of the best places to go sailing. More of twenty golf courses are also available.

Gastronomic characteristics of Costa Blanca

Rice constitutes one of the great chapters in the culinary history of this region. It can be cooked in more than 300 different ways.

At the seaside, shellfish and salt-dried fish are on the menus of every restaurant. The inland areas offer excellent meat dishes, e.g. pork, cutlets, rabbit, leg of lamb, and local sausage meats.

The climate of Costa Blanca

The temperature is generally mild – the annual average being around 18ºC – with little rainfall. In the northern mountains in the area, the rainfall is logically higher. Winter is hardly noticed with spring-like and summer weather being normal for most of the year.
