Costa Brava

Costa Brava

The Spanish Costa Brava boasts a marvellous coastline with a breathtaking backdrop of the Pyrenees Mountains. Lush flora and fauna, exciting parks and wildlife reserves. The 200 km of coastline still offers lovely golden beaches, rocky gorges, and some of the most attractive scenery in the Mediterranean. Costa Brava is paradise not only for the wild-spirited and adventure-seekers but also for those who are simply looking for peaceful villages and a quiet time sunbathing!

The landscape of Costa Brava

Costa Brava’s golden beaches cliffs and small creeks with clear waters extend up to 200 kilometres. The variety of landscapes includes the coast in one side and the Pyrenees and the Gavarres Mountains on the other, which make Catalonia simply one of the most beautiful places in Europe.

Large cities in Costa Brava

Roses was founded by Greek mariners from Rhodes and it continues to attract tourists from all over due to its fascinating history and inviting tourist attractions with the remains of the old Benedictine Monastery and the Basilica of Santa Maria. It has a 4 km beach of fine sand, a beautiful promenade, a huge marina and the coves worthy of an excursion.

Tourist attractions in Costa Brava

The Costa Brava was home to the world-famous Spanish artist, Salvador Dalí. It is well worth a trip to Port Lligat where you can explore his home. Next, you can feast on his artworks collection at the Theater Museum in Figueres. Other possible days out can include a trip to Barcelona, the Pyrenean Principality of Andorra or the Monastery of Montserrat.

Sports activities in Costa Brava

The Natural Reserves of Cape Creus are suitable for swimming or hiking along the small secluded beaches. The ocean has created an endless row of bays and small sand beaches. Some of the best beaches in this area is Cala Montjoi as it is ideal for family bathing.  Playa L’Estartit located not far from the Medes Island is the best place for snorkelling and diving. Playa Gran is also very suitable for families, and it is possible to sail very closely to the cliff caves as well as Playa del Sr, Ramon witch is one of the most beautiful and undisturbed beaches in the area.

Gastronomic characteristics of Costa Brava

The Costa Brava cuisine is a sublime blend of the catch of the sea with the meats and vegetables of the mountains and plains. In Roses one local restaurant Hacienda El Bulli has recently been chosen the best restaurant in the world.

The climate of Costa Brava

Costa Brava’s climate is typically Mediterranean. Statistics show that virtually every day enjoys bright, sunny and mild weather. Such an ideal temperature is the result of it being protected by the Pyrenees Mountains in the north and the warm Mediterranean in the east. At the peak of summer, its temperatures are warm but then the heat is eased by the cool breezes from the sea .
