Costa Dorada

Costa Dorada

Costa Dorada is situated on Spains east coast in the south of Catalonia. Costa Doradas, coastline stretches from just north of Tarragona to the Delta de l'Ebro. The name comes from the golden tone that the sun's reflection on the sand gives to its beaches. The Golden Coast offers apart from its great beaches and beautiful landscapes, towns of outstanding beauty and a long fishing tradition. History, art, monuments, nature, sports, tradition, gastronomy, high-quality lodging and modern tourist installations, Costa Dorada provides you with endless pleasures!

The long beaches are filled with dunes of fine sand. Lying between the sea and the mountain range are wide open areas with quiet villages and fields of crops ranging from vineyards and olive groves to carob, hazelnut, almond trees and vegetable-garden crops.

The network of protected natural areas includes a surprising variety of landscapes and an extensive biodiversity where you can observe an abundant bird life in marsh or dune habitats. Vineyards can be seen practically everywhere, as this region is home to some of Spain's finest wines, in particular the strong reds from the Priorat.

Large cities in Costa Dorada

For a taste of culture, check out Tarragona, a historic city with a great personality. Terragona is an important city of the Roman empire, still preserving outstanding monuments e.g. the aqueducts, an amphitheatre and the Tomb of the Scipios, located at the seaside.

It would be a mistake to miss inland from Tarragona the outstanding Monasteries of Poblet, Santes Creus and Scala Dei and the wonderful Cava bodegas around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia.

The Ebro River ends in the lagoons and marshes of the Delta, a river wetland very rich in bird life. An astonishing sight of flamingos, coots and many other species can be seen on the more secluded lagoons. The Ebro delta is the second largest wetland area in the western Mediterranean and has a labyrinth of lagoons and ditches which are perfect for slow boat trips.

Don’t forget the Theme Parks: Port Aventura, Aquópolis and Aquapark.

Sports activities in Costa Dorada

For climbers the Costa Dorada is a paradise. The warm and sunny weather make practicing golf a very gratifying experience!
