The network of protected natural areas includes a surprising variety of landscapes and an extensive biodiversity where you can observe an abundant bird life in marsh or dune habitats. Vineyards can be seen practically everywhere, as this region is home to some of Spain's finest wines, in particular the strong reds from the Priorat.

For a taste of culture, check out Tarragona, a historic city with a great personality. Terragona is an important city of the Roman empire, still preserving outstanding monuments e.g. the aqueducts, an amphitheatre and the Tomb of the Scipios, located at the seaside.

It would be a mistake to miss inland from Tarragona the outstanding Monasteries of Poblet, Santes Creus and Scala Dei and the wonderful Cava bodegas around Sant Sadurní d'Anoia.
The Ebro River ends in the lagoons and marshes of the Delta, a river wetland very rich in bird life. An astonishing sight of flamingos, coots and many other species can be seen on the more secluded lagoons. The Ebro delta is the second largest wetland area in the western Mediterranean and has a labyrinth of lagoons and ditches which are perfect for slow boat trips.

The Costa Dorada enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate characterized by a clear atmosphere and intensely blue skies. Average temperatures are around 7 to 10 C in winter and 20 to 26 in summer.
